Charles B. Baxley
Charles is a 1974 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a bachelor's degree in political science and a 1976 doctorate in law.
Charles has previously served for fifteen (15) years as Judge for the City of Camden, SC and has taught business law as Adjunct Professor of Law for Limestone College and American Management College. He served as a captain in the USAF Reserve.
Charles has served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Kershaw County Vocational Education Foundation, Inc. for twenty-five (25) years. He has served as an officer and member of the Executive Board of the Indian Waters Council, Boy Scouts of America, and Chairman of the Kershaw County Public Defender Corporation. He is a past President of the Lugoff Optimist Club and the Kershaw County Bar Association. He is a Master Tree Farmer, past President of the Kershaw County Forest Landowners Association and manages his family forestlands. He has served as President of the Kershaw County Historical Society and continues to serve on that board.
Charles is a member of the Congaree Land Trust and Southern Revolutionary War Institute’s Advisory Boards. Charles served two (2) terms as Trustee and as the Chairman of the Kershaw County (SC) School Board. He has received the Silver Beaver award from the Boy Scouts of America and the Order of the Palmetto from the State of South Carolina.
Charles' hobbies include history, travel, aviation, and woodworking. He is the editor and publisher of the on-line magazine, Southern Campaigns of the American Revolution, and gives battlefield tours and military staff rides. He has organized: academic conferences on Revolutionary War topics, an archaeological exploration of the Hobkirk Hill battlefield, a field trip group known as the “Corps of Discovery” to take people to little known Revolutionary War sites in the South, and a Revolutionary War Roundtable for amateurs and professionals to discuss the War in the South. He is the Chairman of the Battle of Camden Preservation Project Advisory Council.
He is married to Judy Carol Duncan of Greenville, South Carolina, and lives in Lugoff, South Carolina, where he has practiced law in the firm of Baxley, Pratt & Wells, P.A. for thirty-three (33) years. He has a daughter who recently graduated from law and international business school.
John W. Wells
John Wells graduated from Furman University in 1977 and the University of South Carolina Law School in 1980. He has been engaged in the general practice of law with the firm of Baxley , Pratt & Wells, PA since 1981. John is an experienced litigator who has practiced in both civil and criminal trial courts in the State of South Carolina for thirty years. His practice includes personal injury litigation, family court litigation and criminal trials. His practice also includes real estate transactions and representing estates in the probate court. John is the Town Attorney for the Town of Elgin, and has served on the Kershaw County Council. John is actively involved in the Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce, the Kershaw County Bar Association and has served as past president of the West Rotary Club and past Chairman of the Kershaw County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
